Be a Greek god in this mobile game

Gods of Olympus is a real-time strategy game from Aegis Interactive. In this game, you will play the role of an Olympus god and battle through the fortified cities of ancient Greece. The game also employs base-building gameplay. With this, you are also tasked to build your fortress, which will help you fend off enemies. Gods of Olympus offers real-time combat and live cooperative play, allowing you to play with and against other players anywhere.

Old gods, new game

There are many base building games for mobile devices, including Clash of Clans. On the surface, the Gods of Olympus game appears to be just like them. However, it has a few tricks up in its sleeves that make it different. For one, it allows players to control their attacks directly. With this, you don't have to cringe if you send your soldier in the wrong direction. Also, Gods of Olympus does not require you to build an army to help bring down an enemy's base. Instead, it gives you the ability to summon ancient Greek gods, who will do your bidding.

You will start with Zeus, and from there, you will have the option to unlock other deities, such as Artemis, Ares, Hades, and Apollo. Each god and goddess will have unique abilities that you can utilize in your mission. You can also combine gods to have more chances of winning.

The objective of the game is to destroy the enemy's temple. It will not be a small feat since there will be other buildings and armies blocking your way. The mission is complete once you destroy the temple.

After each fight, you can collect resources and return to your home city. You can choose to invest your collected resources in defensive options, such as building guard towers and stronger buildings and getting better defensive reinforcements. You can also use the resources in upgrading your pantheon.

No true middle ground

Gods of Olympus comes with varying yet easy mechanics. You will build your city and strengthen it to protect it from enemies. You will also need to take down your enemies' cities by destroying their temple. Of course, you will also need to collect resources to build your city.

The game promise no build timer. However, while you don't have to wait for your buildings, the number of multiplayer fights you can partake in an hour is limited. The game comes with an energy meter called Nectar, which slowly trickles over time. Each fight will cost a good chunk of nectar.

Don't worry, though. The nectar refills when you level up, so you can play a bunch in one sitting. However, if you play a bunch of the game in one sitting, it can be a bit repetitive. You will have to constantly deploy the same god until you save sufficient gold to unlock a new one.

Gods of Olympus comes with three difficulty settings; easy, normal, and hard. However, each option failed to provide a challenge that satisfies the players. Both easy and normal are all too easy. Hard, on the other hand, will match you with players whom you will have a little chance of defeating.

Not your usual strategy game

While it looks like it, Gods of Olympus is not your usual building strategy game. It offers a refreshing experience with its varying mechanics. Moreover, it has good graphics and smooth gameplay. Sure, there are a few caveats here and there. However, it is worth playing, especially if you are a base-building game fan looking for something different.
